Bianca la muntagna
Niura la simenta
L’omu chi simìna, sempri pensa…!
Martino Spina, tireless researcher and southern Southern Italy, after another, different and interesting works of contemporary history which continues to devote, there is now proposing a text he built on memory, feelings, traditions of a whole Sicilian community, the community of Ciminna, "Traditions ciminnesi, Am'à canciari, Proverbs Songs".Once it was easily possible to meet the communities in which prevailed a strong sense of belonging and closure, safeguarding your identity. Today the same community, immersed in communication wildest and most disruptive in globalization, appear to be very open but also very uncertain about their cultural identity.
The cultural identity of a country is something fundamental to its inhabitants, is a substrate that holds and supports the daily life of individuals, groups and society as a whole.
There is a hidden identity and social identity obvious, but no less important.
The hidden identity of a community is formed through the emotions, feelings, social practices, the shared beliefs, instincts and the collective unconscious strategies along a micro-story or if you prefer that began long ago.
A community yet, in some ways, archaic, unwilling to accept what comes from the outside and then tends closed, safeguard their identity hidden through its traditional practices and its strong images and municipalities. But the images, to last, they become words and stories; and the stories need to survive, form-poetic rhythm, need to become poetry. In terms of content, however, the stories undergo processes of reworking the logic that flow into collective myths, interpretations of reality through established patterns. One of the primary patterns of the community is the dialogue with the things that surround it, with men who knows, with that of cow or console. At this point, in the larger national community, comes the epic, in small local communities, was born folk poetry.
Now, now, in open communities in which we live, in all, including Ciminna, all of this, what we have called the hidden identity, is in danger of disappearing, and it is not good. So valuable is the work of Martino Spina and all those who support him. The stories anchored in national history or chronicle village, but always seen through the colorful and extemporaneous speaking of Ciminnese, the naive but diversify heard about the events of sacred history, the extensive and rich repertoire of folk wisdom that we find in the text, all This can help to strengthen or even rebuild, if necessary, the hidden identity of a community that keeps his past to the present and to be clear in order to count on its future.
Martino Spina, with patience and love, with philological accuracy, with real passion cultural, wanted to rebuild step by step, listening and remembering, the story of its people, to be able to keep before it goes inexorably lost.
